Buffalo Titans Travel Teams - Frequently Asked Questions

What are Buffalo Titans travel teams?

Competitive teams for boys and girls in grades 4-11 that compete in tournament play during the spring.  Considered a higher level of play than "house league," also commonly referred to as AAU basketball.

When is the travel season?

Regularly scheduled team practices begin in late February or early March.  The first tournament is typically played in the beginning of April, and the final tournament takes place in early June.

When are tryouts held?

Tryouts are held in the fall for the upcoming spring season.  An additional tryout may be held in mid-February if any roster spots need to be filled.

What if I missed tryouts but still want a chance to play?

Email us!  We may be able to evaluate you at one of your school games or during an individual training session that we offer.

How often are practices and games?

Teams are scheduled to practice twice per week during the season.  Games take place in the form of weekend tournaments.  Most tournaments guarantee 3 games: 2 on Saturday and 1 on Sunday, plus the chance to advance to a playoff round.

What is the cost and what is included?

The average cost per player on one of our teams is typically around $500.  This includes all practices, tournament entry fees, insurance, and a custom Titans uniform that the player can keep.

What is the program philosophy?

Our main goal is player development.  Every player on our rosters deserves the opportunity to be coached and gain competitive playing experience.  Practices emphasize both individual and team concepts.  We will not have any benchwarmers - playing time in games is not expected to be perfectly equal, but every player should play and have a meaningful role.

Who are the coaches?

Our coaching staff boasts the most extensive playing and coaching experience that you will find anywhere.  Director Mick Kuberka is a former Division 1 player at Lafayette College, 2-time NCAA Tournament participant, and former men's assistant coach at Hilbert College.  Melissa Kuberka is the current women's head coach at St. John Fisher College.  She was also an All-American, SUNYAC Player of the Year, and NCAA Tournament participant at SUNY Geneseo, as well as former head coach at Hilbert College.  The rest of the staff is comprised of current or former college players or coaches, or current high school coaches.
